About this treatment
A facial combines several therapeutic steps — cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, massaging and moisturising. How your skin responds to heat, stimulation and exfoliation tells the specialist how to proceed and which home-care routine to recommend.
1. Cleansing
Every facial begins by removing make-up and impurities. If the skin reddens on first cleansing it may be sensitive, in which case abrasive scrubs, microdermabrasion and intense heat are avoided.
2. Exfoliation
Dead surface cells are removed and pores are prepared for a deep clean. Proper exfoliation promotes a healthy, even complexion.
3. Extractions
Steam and exfoliation soften clogged pores so they can be cleared comfortably, with very little risk of scarring when done professionally.
4. Massage
Massaging the facial muscles boosts circulation and promotes healthy skin renewal.
5. Mask
Clay-based masks suit oilier skin; hydrating masks with antioxidants, aloe, hyaluronic acid or honey suit drier skin.
6. Serum & moisturiser
Finally a corrective serum or moisturiser is applied — often topical vitamin C, which is essential for collagen formation and a powerful antioxidant.
