Laser Hair Removal: Sessions, Preparation and Aftercare
Why several sessions are needed, how to prepare and what to do afterwards.
Why several sessions?
Lasers only affect hairs in the active growth phase. Because not all hairs are in that phase at once, lasting results usually need 6–8 sessions, 4–8 weeks apart.
Before your session
- Avoid strong sun and tanning for two weeks.
- Don’t wax, epilate or pluck — shaving only.
- Shave the area the day before.
After your session
- Mild redness is normal and fades within hours.
- Use sunscreen daily.
- Avoid saunas, pools and intense exercise for 48 hours.
Which device?
Alexandrite lasers such as the Cynosure Apogee are highly effective for light to medium skin. The laser type and settings are chosen at your consultation based on skin and hair colour.
